Mid-Autumn Festival

Three days to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival

The unveiling of the paifang arch marked the start of the Mid-Autumn Festival, which took place in Usera from Friday 2 to Sunday 4 October. On Friday and Saturday, Plaza del Hidrógeno hosted Chinese dance performances and qipao parades showcasing the traditional Chinese dress, with morning and afternoon sessions. There were also musical performances and dragon dances, which moved to Plaza de José Luis Hoys, next to Usera metro station, on Sunday.

Throughout the three-day festival, the pedestrian route featured tea stalls, tai chi activities, a food area and a market, alongside craft workshops over the weekend. On Friday evening, Pradolongo Park hosted two events: a DJ set at the bandstand and “Music and Magic Under the Moon”, a shadow theatre and illusion show at the Mirador de Pradolongo amphitheatre.

Factory of Dreams, Okuda San Miguel’s space for contemporary art creation, management and outreach in Usera, also joined the celebrations. On Friday 2 October, it hosted children’s workshops where young participants could experiment with colour and contribute to a collaborative artwork inspired by the arch. On Saturday 3 October, the studio opened its doors for guided tours, offering visitors an insight into the space and the artist’s creative process, as well as organising walks to the arch.
